What fence removal costs in Toronto
Fence removal is priced by the length of the run, $8 per linear ft before HST. Disposal included, so panels, rails, pickets, gates, posts and hardware all leave with us. Measure along the fence line and multiply, or send photos and we will count it for you.
A price guide for the GTA that we checked in October 2026 posted $4 to $12 per linear foot for removal and disposal. It is the only fence range we could find, so treat it as a rough frame and not a rule.
| Length of fence | Removal and disposal |
|---|---|
| 30 linear ft | $240 |
| 60 linear ft | $480 |
| 100 linear ft | $800 |
| 150 linear ft | $1,200 |
What happens on the day
A fence comes down section by section, starting at the gate end or the end nearest the street.
- We walk the line with you and confirm the length, the gates and which sections come out.
- Gates are unhung first, then panels, pickets or chain link are taken off the rails and posts.
- Rails come off the posts. Wood sections are cut into pieces we can carry, and chain link is rolled.
- Posts are cut at ground level or pulled out, depending on your quote.
- Everything is carried to the loading point and hauled away. We walk the line with you before we leave.
What changes the price
Length sets most of the price. These details move it.
- Posts set in concrete: each post comes out with a collar of concrete, and pulling it means digging. Concrete from the ground is heavy material, from $350 per cu yd.
- Height and type: a tall privacy fence has more lumber per foot than a low picket fence, and metal and chain link behave differently from wood.
- Access to the back yard: if every section has to be carried through a narrow side passage, the carry distance adds time.
- Condition: rotted wood falls apart as it is handled, while vines, shrubs and soil piled against a fence slow the work.
- Gates, planter boxes or lattice attached to the fence.
- Weight: past the load allowance, extra weight is billed at $250 per tonne from the scale ticket, and posts set in concrete add the most.
What we take and what we do not
We take wood, chain link, wrought iron and aluminum fencing, gates, posts and hardware. We do not take hazardous waste: paint, propane, chemicals or asbestos. Sort out any stored chemicals along the fence before we arrive.
We take fences down. We do not build the replacement, survey a boundary or decide which neighbour owns a fence. If you are replacing the fence, schedule the removal close to the day the new one goes in, because the yard is open in between.
Toronto and Ontario rules for fences
Locates for posts. Ontario law requires a locate request before anyone starts digging, and that includes pulling a post out of the ground. Ontario One Call, now called Ontario Dig Authority, takes requests for free. Its homeowner page names building a fence, asks for at least 5 business days before a single-address project, and says the person doing the digging should submit the request. If you hire us to pull posts, tell us when you book so the dig date follows the locate. Cutting posts at ground level digs nothing.
Shared fences. The City of Toronto says it has no role in resolving disputes about the location or costs of boundary fences between properties, and encourages neighbours to talk to each other. Toronto's Fence Bylaw (Municipal Code Chapter 447) also states that the provincial Line Fences Act, except section 20, does not apply in the City, so there is no fence-viewer process to fall back on. Before a shared fence comes down, agree in writing who is paying, who is replacing it and when.
Pools and hot tubs. The City requires a Pool Fence Enclosure Permit to build and maintain the fence and gates around an outdoor pool or hot tub. Its fence page says nothing about taking down an ordinary fence. If your fence is a pool enclosure, ask 311 before it comes down, and have a compliant enclosure in place.
Replacement height. Toronto sets maximum fence heights by where the fence sits on the property, in its Fence Bylaw (Municipal Code Chapter 447), and the City measures height from the average grade. Check the bylaw before you order a taller fence.
Disposal. Fencing is on the City's list of renovation waste accepted at its drop-off depots, for a fee. Our price covers the removal. Disposal included.
What you can do before we arrive
These steps keep the job to a single visit.
- Walk the line and tell us which sections come out and which stay, especially at a neighbour's corner.
- Clear plants, hoses, bins and furniture from a metre along both sides of the fence.
- Photograph each section and the gates, and any posts set in concrete if you can see them.
- Tell the neighbours the day it is coming down.
- If posts are coming out, book early enough for the locate request. Same-day service adds $50, but digging waits for the locates.
