What junk removal costs in Richmond Hill

Pricing is by the load. One or two items start at $119. A 1/8 load is $169, a 1/4 load is $259, a 1/2 load is $389 and a 3/4 load is $499. A full load, about 16 cubic yards, is $599 and includes 1,000 kg. All prices are in Canadian dollars and before 13% HST.

Volume is confirmed on site, so the photo quote is a starting number. Weight above the allowance is billed $250 per tonne from the scale ticket.

  • Single mattress or box spring pickup: $99
  • Fridge, freezer or air conditioner: plus $30 per unit on top of the load
  • Hot tub cut up and removed: from $399
  • Same-day service: plus $50

What Richmond Hill collects and where the limits are

Richmond Hill allows three items each garbage day. A large item such as a sofa, a chair, a mattress or a toilet counts as one of the three. Large items cannot exceed 68 kg (150 lb) or 1.8 m (6 ft) in length, so a heavy sectional, a long dresser or a solid-wood table may have to go to a York Region depot instead. Wrap glass and mirrors in cardboard and mark them, and split a two-piece toilet into tank and bowl.

Garbage goes out by 7 a.m. on collection day and no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before, and anything uncollected has to come off the curb by 9 p.m. A fine of up to $100 can follow if an item stays out for 48 hours after notice. Extra items need a garbage tag.

Double-Up Days let you set out up to six garbage items without tags. The City sets the dates each year, so check its calendar. Outside those weeks you are limited to three items and tags.

Large appliances and metal goods are a separate free service, by appointment about once a month. Book online or through Access Richmond Hill. The City takes fridges, freezers, air conditioners, dishwashers, washers, dryers, stoves, microwaves, dehumidifiers, furnaces, hot water tanks, metal-frame beds and metal shelving, among others. Take every door off an appliance. Set it out after 6 p.m. the night before or before 7 a.m. The City does not take furniture that is not mostly metal, TVs and other e-waste, water softeners or pool filters. Condo and apartment residents need a building representative to complete the booking form.

Elgin Mills depot or a paid pickup

York Region runs the Elgin Mills Community Environmental Centre at 1124 Elgin Mills Road East, inside Richmond Hill. Proof of residency is required. Chargeable loads of 100 kg or less pay $11, and heavier loads pay $180 per tonne. Garbage, concrete, drywall and untreated wood are chargeable, and a mixed load with free items is charged in full. A fridge or air conditioner is free with a CFC removal sticker and $20 per unit without one.

The centre turns away vehicles larger than a 16-foot cube truck, and it does not take sod, soil, clean fill, organics or yard waste. York Region also lists Elgin Mills for mattresses and box springs, with a disposal fee.

A pickup makes sense when the load is mixed and heavy, when the item is over 68 kg, or when you do not want to spend a morning sorting before the weigh-in. The City appliance service is free and a good choice for a single fridge or furnace if you can wait for the monthly appointment and put the item out yourself.

Jobs in Oak Ridges, Bayview Hill, Mill Pond and Jefferson

Bayview Hill has larger detached homes, and jobs there can mean large rooms of furniture: dining sets, sectionals, home office desks and basement media rooms. Some of those pieces can pass the 68 kg limit, so a paid pickup may be the practical route short of taking them to a depot yourself.

Oak Ridges has larger lots and more outdoor items. Hot tubs, old patio sets and garden furniture turn up in photos, and a hot tub is cut up and hauled away rather than lifted whole. Mill Pond has older homes on mature lots, where a long-held house can mean a full cleanout ahead of a sale or an estate settlement.

Jefferson and the Elgin Mills area have newer detached homes and townhouses. Typical jobs are furniture swapped out after a renovation, a basement that has become a storage room, and a move where the buyer wants the house empty.

Condo towers around Richmond Hill Centre and access

Richmond Hill Centre has condo towers where a pickup depends on the building. Many ask residents to book a freight elevator and loading area, and the booking window sets when we can arrive. Book it first, then tell us the time slot when you send photos.

In a townhouse complex, tell us where we can stop and how many steps lead to the door. Photos of the route, the stairs and the door help us quote accurately. We cannot take paint, propane, chemicals or asbestos.
