Junk removal prices in Ajax

A minimum pickup of one or two items (up to 1 cu yd), is $119. A 1/4 load is $259 and a 1/2 load, about 8 cubic yards, is $389. A 3/4 load is $499, and a full load of about 16 cubic yards is $599, with 1,000 kg included. All prices are before 13% HST.

Heavy items change the math before bulky ones do. Weight over the allowance is $250 per tonne, billed from the scale ticket, and a fridge, freezer or air conditioner carries plus $30 per unit for the refrigerant. A hot tub, cut up and removed, is from $399. Same-day service is plus $50 when the schedule allows.

Send photos through the quote form with your street or neighbourhood and where the items are sitting. The price you get is for the load in the photos, and volume is confirmed on site.

What the Region and the Town of Ajax handle

In Ajax, the Region of Durham handles bulky item collection. The Town's garbage page says the Region collects bulky and metal items, electronics, porcelain and batteries. Under the Region's rules, furniture and large items go out by 7 a.m. on your biweekly garbage day, up to two per collection, no appointment. Mattresses and box springs are on that list. Metal goods, electronics and porcelain, such as a bathtub, are by appointment only.

Garbage is four bags per collection day, and every bag over that needs a tag. Ajax tags are $3 each or $15 for a pack of five. The Town sells them at Town Hall at 65 Harwood Avenue South, the Operations Centre on Salem Road North, the Ajax and McLean community centres and Audley Recreation Centre, and Durham also lists the Ajax Public Library. Pickering residents pay a different price, so do not use a neighbour's number across the town line.

The Region's list is specific about what it leaves behind. Durham does not collect cabinetry, lumber, drywall, doors, carpet or underlay. Hot tubs are not on the Region's furniture or metal goods lists.

  • Ajax bag tags: $3 each or $15 for five
  • Two furniture or large items per collection, out by 7 a.m., no appointment
  • Appliances and other metal goods by appointment through Durham, no item limit
  • No curbside collection for cabinetry, lumber, drywall, doors, carpet or underlay

Drop-off, a bin or a pickup in Ajax

The Pickering Private Waste Disposal Facility on Squires Beach Road is the nearest of Durham's listed waste sites to Ajax. It charges the operator's own rates for everything but household hazardous waste, and the Region does not publish them, so call before you drive. The Region's posted rates apply at its Oshawa facility: $7 up to 40 kg, $175 per 1,000 kg beyond that, $20 for a fridge or air conditioner, and mixed loads are charged for their whole weight. Card or debit only.

A bin on the road or boulevard in Ajax falls under the Town's road occupancy permit. The Town's 2026 fees and charges by-law lists road occupancies at $210.90. We do not leave a bin on the street. The job is loaded and gone in one visit.

For one or two items, the curb costs nothing if you can wait for your garbage day. For a full garage or a basement, the choice is between renting a bin, filling it yourself and arranging its pickup, or paying $119 to $599 to have it carried out. If the Region's two-item limit is already spoken for, a single mattress or box spring pickup is $99.

Common jobs by neighbourhood

Southern Ajax grew from the wartime Defence Industries munitions plant and its workers' village, and after the plant closed in 1945 CMHC planned the housing subdivisions that followed. In those older streets, and in the Pickering Village area, one of the oldest settled parts of town, a cleanout often means a basement and a detached garage that have been filling for decades.

Westney Heights was begun in the early 1980s, so its homes are now more than 40 years old. A sale or a downsizing there often means clearing a full basement, a garage and a spare room in the same visit. In Southwood, Nottingham, Riverside and Applecroft, a typical reason to call is a move: a sectional, a bed frame, a patio set that will not fit the next backyard.

Downtown Ajax has condominium living around Pat Bayly Square, which opened in 2018 with residential, retail and office space. Book your building's elevator before the pickup day, and tell us the floor and the length of the carry. Along the waterfront, where the Waterfront Trail runs and large homes line Lake Driveway, carries from backyards and side gates are priced from the photos.

Backyards, hot tubs and bulky outdoor items

Ajax backyards produce the loads the Region's lists do not cover. A hot tub is cut up and hauled out for from $399, before HST, and the price depends on size and how far the carry is. The Region will take a metal swing set, but only dismantled and bundled in lengths of up to four feet, by appointment. If you would rather not take it apart, send a photo and we will tell you whether it can go as is.

Appliances are the other regular job. Durham needs fridges empty with the doors off, washers and dishwashers drained, and an appointment through the waste app, the collection calendar or 311. When the appliance is in a basement and the stairs are narrow, a pickup spares you the lifting.

How to book in Ajax

Use the quote form on this site and attach photos. Tell us the neighbourhood, whether the items are inside or outside, and how many stairs there are. We reply with a price for the load. We cannot take paint, propane, chemicals or asbestos.

Ajax is outside the City of Toronto, so we do junk removal here and nothing else. We are insured, prices are posted, and the quote is for the load in your photos.

Questions

  • Loads start at $119 for one or two items. A 1/4 load is $259, a 1/2 load is $389, and a full load of about 16 cubic yards is $599. Prices are before 13% HST, and volume is confirmed on site.

  • Ajax tags are $3 each or $15 for a pack of five. You need one for each bag over the four-bag limit. They are sold at Town Hall, the Operations Centre, the Ajax and McLean community centres and Audley Recreation Centre.

  • Yes, through the Region of Durham. Put up to two items at the curb by 7 a.m. on your garbage day, with no appointment. Couches, chairs, dressers, mattresses and box springs are accepted. Cabinetry, lumber, drywall, doors and carpet are not collected.

  • Yes. A hot tub cut up and removed is from $399 before HST, and the final price depends on size, access and weight. The Region's furniture and metal goods lists do not include hot tubs, so a pickup is the usual route.

  • Book a metal goods pickup with Durham, with fridge doors off and washers drained, and put the item out by 7 a.m. Or we take it for the load price, plus plus $30 per unit for a fridge, freezer or air conditioner.

  • A bin on the road or boulevard needs a road occupancy permit from the Town of Ajax, and the Town's 2026 fees by-law lists road occupancies at $210.90. We do not leave a bin on the street, so a pickup does not need a permit.

  • Sometimes, depending on the day's schedule. Same-day service is plus $50 on top of the load price. Send photos in the morning and we will confirm a window.
