Junk removal in Oakville

We clear estate cleanouts, garages, hot tubs, patio sets and bulky furniture from Oakville homes. Halton limits curbside bulk waste to three items, so bigger jobs are where a priced pickup fits.

What junk removal costs in Oakville

A pickup of one or two items starts at $119. A 1/4 load is $259, a 1/2 load is $389, and a full load of about 16 cubic yards is $599, with 1,000 kg included. Prices are in Canadian dollars before 13% HST.

Some Oakville jobs are bigger than a single room: a whole house after a sale, or a garage, shed contents and a yard at once. Those are priced as the loads they fill, and the quote comes from photos. Volume is confirmed when we arrive.

What Halton collects at the curb in Oakville

Oakville's curbside bulk waste is run by Halton Region, not the Town. Bulk items are collected every other week with your garbage. Halton counts an item as bulk if it is over 50 pounds or will not fit in a closed garbage bag or container.

The limit is three items per collection, and Halton says additional items will not be collected. Put them out by 7 a.m. on collection day and no earlier than 5 p.m. the evening before. Do not pile them. A sofa, a mattress and a dresser use the whole allowance.

Halton has set-out rules for the common items. Mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic. Carpet, underpad and linoleum have to be bundled and tied to no more than 1.7 metres by 1 metre. Toilets go out with the tank removed from the base. Wood such as fencing, shelving and doors has to be dismantled and bundled to the same size, and windows and mirrors take tape in an X across the glass. Remove nails and staples, and do not put bulk items in cardboard boxes.

The exclusions matter for cleanouts. Halton does not take metal and appliances in the bulk stream, electronics, tires, building debris, mixed piles, tree branches or stumps, propane tanks, or soil and rocks. Halton also notes that collected bulk items go to landfill and suggests a Reuse Depot for items in good shape.

Appliances, the Milton site and the wait

Fridges, stoves, washers, dryers and other metal items are a separate collection by appointment. You book online or through 311 before you put anything out, and you need to receive residential curbside collection and have a valid email. Halton says the pickup can take two to three weeks from the request. Appliance doors come off and are set out beside the unit, washers and dishwashers have to be emptied of water, and tall units such as fridges, upright freezers and hot water tanks lie flat on the ground. To change or cancel, Halton asks for at least four days' notice.

The other route is the Halton Waste Management Site at 5400 Regional Road 25 in Milton. It is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus Sundays in May and June from 8 a.m. to noon. Mixed waste, drywall, appliances, scrap metal, shingles and wood are $10 for a load of 150 kg or less, and $221 per tonne above that. Payment is credit or debit only, and open loads must be tarped or roped. The site page lists mixed solid waste but does not name furniture or mattresses, so confirm with Halton before you load a mattress.

That makes the choice concrete. If the job is three bulky items and you can wait for the next bulk week, use the curb. If it is more than three items, includes a mattress or a fridge that cannot wait weeks, or would mean a round trip to Milton with a loaded vehicle, a pickup is the practical option.

Common jobs across Oakville

In Old Oakville and Bronte, jobs often come with a sale, an estate or a downsizing: furniture sets, a piano bench, framed art, bookcases and storage boxes. The job is less about volume than about careful carrying, and stairs and narrow side yards are the usual limits.

In Glen Abbey, Joshua Creek and River Oaks, the homes with big garages and finished basements can generate larger jobs. These include an unused home gym, a pool table, a sectional, patio furniture, sports gear and boxes stored since the last move. These are good half-load and full-load jobs, and they hit Halton's three-item limit before you have moved a single box.

In Palermo, jobs can be renovation leftovers and move-in clutter: furniture that did not fit, old appliances replaced during a kitchen update, and packaging from new purchases.

Large lots come with large outdoor items. A hot tub that is cut up and removed starts at $399. Halton does not take tree branches or stumps in the bulk stream, and its yard waste service takes brush tied in bundles no larger than 2 metres by 1 metre with branches no thicker than 7.5 centimetres. Send us a photo if your yard debris is more than that.

Estate cleanouts and the bin question

An estate cleanout can often be done in one visit, with a family member walking us through what leaves and what stays. Send photos of each room and the garage, tell us the access, and we price the load. Items you want to keep or sell can be tagged or moved to one room first.

If you were thinking of a bin, the Town of Oakville has a Temporary Street Occupation policy for bins on the right-of-way. Applications go in at least 10 business days ahead of the date, and a bin may not sit on any part of a sidewalk, pathway or walkway. A pickup does not need a permit and does not stay on your street.

How to book in Oakville

Send photos with the address through the site. A single mattress or box spring pickup is $99 and a fridge, freezer or air conditioner is plus $30 per unit on top of the load price. Same-day service is plus $50 when the schedule allows. We are insured.

We do not take paint, propane, chemicals or asbestos. Homes built before about 1990 can contain asbestos in plaster, vinyl tile, popcorn ceilings and drywall compound.
