Bermondsey Transfer Station: hours, fees and what it takes

Bermondsey is one of the City of Toronto's seven drop-off depots, at 188 Bermondsey Road. This page covers its hours, its fees and what it will and will not take. We are a private junk removal company, not the City, so confirm anything time-sensitive with the City before you drive over.

What a visit costs at Bermondsey

Before you unload, you pay a deposit. The City sets it by the estimated size and type of your load, with a minimum of $40. After you unload, you drive back over the scale. The depot prints a receipt, then refunds you or asks for the difference.

For garbage and renovation waste, the City charges $189.86 per tonne. The minimum fee is $19, which covers the first 100 kg. The City's own example: 205 kg of garbage costs $38.92. The scale rounds to the nearest 5 kg.

Metal and yard waste are $142.40 per tonne. Loads under 20 kg are free, but a load over 20 kg is charged for its full weight, not just the part over 20 kg. Household hazardous waste and electronic waste are free for residents.

The City says a vehicle with separate loads of garbage and recycling must return to the scale after each material, or the fee is worked out at the highest rate. If you are bringing more than one material, such as garbage and metal, ask the staff at the scale how they will weigh it.

Drywall and renovation waste at Bermondsey

Bermondsey is one of only three depots that take drywall. The others are Ingram and Commissioners. The limit is 1 tonne, and the drywall must be clean: remove nails, screws, metal corner beads, ceramics and wood first.

Renovation waste also includes baseboards, bathtubs, cabinets, countertops, doors, fencing, insulation, plaster, pressure treated wood, roof shingles, siding and tiles. Lumber can be no longer than 4 feet. Renovation waste is charged at the garbage rate.

The City does not take concrete, brick, cinder blocks, asphalt, paving stones, rocks, soil, sand or asbestos at any depot. If your renovation produced those, a private company has to take them. Our concrete removal service covers that in Toronto.

What Bermondsey will not take

Bermondsey does not take mattresses. The City accepts them only at Commissioners and Dufferin, for $142.40 per tonne as of July 1, 2026. Residents can also set a mattress out at the curb as an oversized item. The City's Locations page says to expect delays at Commissioners from October 26 to December 18 because of tipping floor repairs, so allow extra time or check with 311 first.

Tires are not accepted at any City depot until further notice. Since January 1, 2026, City depots take recycling only from commercial properties, charities, institutions, religious groups and City bodies. Residents use their curbside Blue Bin. The City's Locations page still lists Blue Bin items at Bermondsey, so ask 311 if you are unsure.

Yard waste has size limits: no piece wider than 7.5 centimetres or longer than 1.2 metres, except Christmas trees. Soil and grass are never accepted. A mixed load of garbage and recycling is turned away at the gate.

  • Mattresses: Commissioners or Dufferin, or the curb on your regular garbage collection day
  • Concrete, brick, soil, sand, asphalt: a private company
  • Tires: the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority list of drop-off locations
  • Paint, propane, batteries and other household hazardous waste: accepted at Bermondsey, but only at the hazardous waste hours above

Rules for your vehicle and your load

A safe motorized vehicle is required. Walk-ins, bicycles and manual transportation devices are not allowed, and unsafe vehicles or unsecured loads are refused entry. Loads must be fully covered by a tarp or something equivalent, and tarps come off only in the unloading area.

Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and between 3 and 5 p.m., City-operated and contracted vehicles get priority, so allow extra time. Only the driver leaves the vehicle in the unloading area, and you unload the items yourself. The City recommends protective gear and calls depots industrial locations.

Household hazardous waste is the exception to the weighing step. Your vehicle does not need to be weighed, and you follow the signs to the hazardous waste area. The daily limit is 50 litres or 50 kilograms in total. Paints, propane tanks, batteries, light bulbs and cleaners all belong in that area. For the full list and the free Toxic Taxi pickup, see our guide to household hazardous waste in Toronto.

If you would rather not haul it yourself

A trip to Bermondsey means loading your own vehicle, tarping it, unloading it yourself and paying at the scale. If the load is large, heavy or includes things the depot will not take, we can come and do it instead. We load it and haul it away from anywhere in Toronto and the GTA, priced by the load.

Our posted prices are before 13% HST. The smallest pickup, the minimum, is $119 with 100 kg included. A half load, about about 8 cu yd, is $389. A full load of about 16 cubic yards is $599 with 1,000 kg included. You can send photos for a quote, and we confirm the volume on site. We are insured.

Mattresses, which Bermondsey turns away, are $99. If everything is already outside at ground level and ready to load, you take 10% off the load price. Same-day service is available for an extra charge when the schedule allows. We try to recycle what we can.

We do not take hazardous waste: paint, propane, chemicals or asbestos. Those go to a City depot or Toxic Taxi. For the other side of the choice, see the City depot rules in our guide to all seven Toronto transfer stations, or compare costs in how junk removal is priced in Toronto.
