Dufferin Transfer Station: hours, fees and what it accepts
This is a plain guide to the City of Toronto's Dufferin drop-off depot at 35 Vanley Crescent in North York. We are a private junk removal company, not the City, and every depot fact here comes from the City's own pages.

Dufferin Transfer Station address, hours and fees
The Dufferin drop-off depot is at 35 Vanley Crescent, in North York. It is open Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is closed on Saturday and Sunday, so a weekend trip here does not work.
A safe motorized vehicle is required and every load must be secured and covered. Bicycles and walk-ins are not allowed. The table below has the facts that are specific to this depot. These details are as of October 2026, and hours change on holidays, so check the City's locations page or call 311 before you go.

What Dufferin accepts and what it turns away
Dufferin is one of the City's more limited depots. It handles everyday garbage, yard waste, metal, mattresses and most renovation waste, and that is the end of the list. The City's locations page notes that Dufferin does not accept household hazardous waste or electronic waste.
- Accepted: garbage, yard waste, metal, mattresses, and renovation waste such as baseboards, bathtubs, cabinets, countertops, doors, fencing, insulation, lumber up to 4 feet, plaster, shingles, siding and tiles.
- Not accepted at Dufferin: drywall. The City accepts drywall (up to 1 tonne, with nails, screws, corner beads, ceramics and wood removed) only at Bermondsey, Ingram and Commissioners.
- Not accepted at Dufferin: household hazardous waste such as paint, propane and chemicals, and electronic waste.
- Not accepted at any City depot: concrete, brick, asphalt, soil, sand, gravel, paving stones, cinder blocks, rocks, asbestos and sod.
- Tires are not accepted at any City depot until further notice.
- Remove batteries from battery-powered items before you drop them off.
Recycling is closed to residents
The locations page still lists Blue Bin items for Dufferin, but the City's accepted items page says that since January 1, 2026 its depots take recycling only from commercial properties, charities, institutions, religious groups and City bodies. Residents use curbside collection for recycling. Mixed loads of garbage and recycling are turned away.
Yard waste size limits
Yard waste pieces cannot be more than 7.5 centimetres (3 inches) across or 1.2 metres (4 feet) long, except Christmas trees. Soil and grass are not accepted anywhere.
Mattresses at Dufferin
Dufferin is one of only two City depots that take mattresses. The other is Commissioners, where the City warns of delays from October 26 to December 18, 2026 because of tipping floor repairs. You can bring one or several for a fee, but commercial loads are not accepted. Mattresses should be unwrapped and unbound, unless they are infested with bed bugs, in which case wrap them in plastic.
Since July 1, 2026, the City charges $142.40 per tonne for mattresses. The City's own example is 105 kg of mattresses costing $14.96. If you live in a house, the City will also collect a mattress at the curb on your garbage day as an oversized item, with no depot trip. People in multi-residential buildings take mattresses to the building's designated area.
If you cannot haul it yourself, we take a single mattress or box spring for $99 and a mattress with its box spring for $149, before 13% HST. See mattress removal in Toronto.
What a visit looks like, and when to go
The steps are the same at every City depot: you are weighed on the way in, you declare what you have, pay a deposit, unload where staff direct you, and return to the scale for your final weight and receipt. The full walk-through is on the guide to all Toronto transfer stations. These are the points that matter at Dufferin.
- Cover the load with a tarp or an acceptable alternative. An unsecured load is refused entry.
- You do the unloading. Only the driver may leave the vehicle in the unloading area, so passengers stay in the vehicle.
- Peak periods are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. Priority goes to City and City-contracted vehicles then, so allow extra time.
- Do not mix loads. Mixed loads of waste, recyclable or prohibited material are not accepted. The City says a vehicle with separate loads of garbage and recycling must return to the scale after each material type, or the highest material rate applies.
- The City advises protective equipment. It calls its depots industrial sites and takes no responsibility for damage to your vehicle.
- Closed on City holidays such as Family Day, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The City lists November 11, 2026 as open.
What a Dufferin visit costs
Garbage and renovation waste cost $189.86 per tonne, billed as $19 for the first 100 kg plus $1 per 5.27 kg or part thereof after that. The scale rounds to the nearest 5 kg. The deposit of at least $40 is not the fee: it is held while you unload and you get a refund or pay the difference at the scale.
For example, 400 kg of cabinets, doors and trim comes to about $76 at the City's rate. That is an estimate from the City's formula of $19 plus the weight over 100 kg divided by 5.27, not a figure the City publishes, and the scale decides the real fee. The costs that do not show on the scale ticket are your time, the gas, the loading and the lifting.
Metal and yard waste are $142.40 per tonne. A load under 20 kg is free, but a load over 20 kg is charged for its full weight, not only the part over.
Where to take what Dufferin will not accept
Dufferin is a good fit for a load of household garbage, old cabinets or a mattress. For other items, the City sends you somewhere else.
- Drywall: Bermondsey (188 Bermondsey Road), Ingram (50 Ingram Drive) or Commissioners (400 Commissioners Street), up to 1 tonne of clean drywall. The City expects delays at Commissioners from October 26 to December 18, 2026, so Bermondsey or Ingram may be quicker.
- Paint, propane, batteries, chemicals and electronics: a depot with a household hazardous waste and electronic waste area, such as Bermondsey or Ingram. For paint, propane, batteries and chemicals only, the City also offers a free Toxic Taxi home pickup, booked through 311 for 10 to 50 litres or kilograms. Our hazardous waste guide lists the options.
- Concrete, brick, asphalt and soil: a private company. No City depot takes them.
- Weekends: Dufferin is closed. The City lists Saturday garbage drop-off, ending at 12:30 p.m., at Bermondsey, Ingram and Scarborough, so those are the depots to check.
If you would rather we haul it
We do junk removal across Toronto and the GTA, and demolition and tear-out in the City of Toronto only. We are a private company, so there is no scale ticket and no depot hours: we load the items and take them away. If you are in North York, see junk removal in North York.
Our prices are posted and quoted before 13% HST. The minimum pickup, up to 1 cubic yard and one or two items, is $119. A 1/4 load is $259, a 1/2 load is $389 and a full load of about 16 cubic yards is $599, with 1,000 kg of weight included. Weight over the allowance is $200 per tonne.
Send photos and we quote from them. Volume is confirmed on site. We are insured, and same-day service is plus $50 when the schedule allows. If everything is already outside at ground level and ready to load, take 10% off the load price. We try to recycle what we can.
We do not take hazardous waste: paint, propane, chemicals or asbestos. Those go to the City's household hazardous waste service.
