Toronto transfer stations: every City drop-off depot
The City of Toronto runs seven transfer stations that double as drop-off depots, often called the Toronto dump. This guide lists each one with its address, hours and accepted items, then explains how a visit works. We are a private junk removal company, not the City, and every depot fact comes from the City's own pages as of October 2026.

The seven City of Toronto drop-off depots
The City says its seven transfer stations collect, sort and transfer all of the City's waste, and that residents can use their drop-off depots to dispose of unwanted items. Residents often call these sites the dump. For a resident with a load to unload, a transfer station, a drop-off depot and the dump are one place.
The table gives the address of each depot and its two sets of hours. Household hazardous waste and electronic waste have their own hours at every depot that takes them.
As of October 22, 2026 the City listed two notices. Household hazardous waste is not accepted at Disco from October 13 to 26 because of repair work, though Disco stays open for everything else. From October 26 to December 18, expect delays at Commissioners because of tipping floor repairs, so allow extra time or use another depot.

Which depot to use for what
All seven take garbage, renovation waste and yard waste. They differ on four things: clean drywall, metal, mattresses and hazardous or electronic waste. Match your load to the table, then pick the closest depot that takes all of it, so you do not drive twice.
The City describes renovation waste as items such as baseboards, bathtubs, cabinets, countertops, doors, fencing, insulation, lumber up to 4 feet, plaster, pressure treated wood, roof shingles, siding and tiles. Fees apply. Drywall is accepted up to 1 tonne, only at Bermondsey, Ingram and Commissioners, and only if clean: take out nails, screws, metal corner beads, ceramics and wood first.
Each depot also has its own page:
- Bermondsey Transfer Station: 188 Bermondsey Road. Open around the clock from Monday 6 a.m. until Friday 9 p.m. and takes clean drywall and metal.
- Commissioners Street Transfer Station: 400 Commissioners Street. The one depot that takes both mattresses and clean drywall, with repair delays from October 26 to December 18.
- Disco Road Transfer Station: 120 Disco Road in Etobicoke. No metal or drywall, and hazardous waste is paused until October 26.
- Dufferin Transfer Station: 35 Vanley Crescent. Takes mattresses and metal but no hazardous or electronic waste.
- Ingram Transfer Station: 50 Ingram Drive. Open around the clock from Monday morning to Saturday midday and takes clean drywall and metal.
- Scarborough Transfer Station: 1 Transfer Place. Takes general loads on Saturday morning, with no metal or drywall.
- Victoria Park Transfer Station: 3350 Victoria Park Avenue. Garbage, yard and hazardous waste, with no metal, drywall or mattresses.

How a depot visit works
The City sets out six steps for a visit. It also tells users to treat its drop-off depots as industrial locations.
Before you go
You need a safe motor vehicle. Walk-ins, bicycles and manual transportation devices are not permitted, and unsafe vehicles or unsecured loads are refused entry. Loads must arrive fully covered by a tarp or an acceptable alternative.
Sort first. Mixed loads of garbage and recycling are denied entry, and the City's rules say mixed loads of waste, recyclable material and prohibited material are not accepted. If one vehicle carries separate loads of garbage and recycling, return to the scales after each, or the fee is charged at the highest rate.
Wear protective equipment. The City recommends it, requires safety helmets and boots in designated areas, and takes no responsibility for damage to vehicles on site.
At the scales and the tipping area
Drive to the weigh scales first so your vehicle can be weighed. Declare what you are disposing of: garbage, drywall, scrap metal, electronic waste or yard waste. Staff then direct you to the right area. You are responsible for unloading, and only the driver may leave the vehicle in the unloading area.
Household hazardous waste and electronics are the exception. They are free, so your vehicle does not need to be weighed. Follow the signs to the hazardous waste drop-off area.
After unloading, return to the scales. Your net weight is calculated, a receipt is printed, and you either get a refund or pay the balance to finish the transaction.
Paying
A deposit is taken before you unload, based on the size of your load and the type of material. The minimum deposit for any load is $40. Depots accept cash, debit, and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and American Express). Cash is rounded to the nearest dollar. The next section has the rates.
During peak periods, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m., the City gives priority to City-operated and contracted vehicles, so allow extra time at those times.
Depot fees and the minimum
Scales weigh in 5 kg steps, so your load rounds to the nearest 5 kg. Garbage and renovation waste cost $19 for the first 100 kg, then $189.86 per tonne, which the City words as $1 per 5.27 kg or part thereof. The City's example: 205 kg of garbage costs $38.92.
Metal and yard waste are cheaper at $142.40 per tonne. A load under 20 kg is free, but a load over 20 kg is charged for its full weight, not just the part over 20 kg. Mattresses have been $142.40 per tonne since July 1, 2026, and commercial loads are not accepted.
Household hazardous waste and electronic waste are free. Recycling is no longer a resident service at the depots: since January 1, 2026 the depots take recycling only from commercial properties, charities, institutions, religious groups and City departments, so households use curbside collection.
| Material | Fee | Minimum or free limit |
|---|---|---|
| Garbage and renovation waste | $189.86 per tonne | $19 covers the first 100 kg |
| Metal and yard waste | $142.40 per tonne | Free under 20 kg; full weight charged over 20 kg |
| Mattresses (Commissioners and Dufferin only) | $142.40 per tonne | Residents only; commercial loads not accepted |
| Household hazardous waste and electronic waste | Free | Up to 50 litres or 50 kilograms a day for hazardous waste |
| Deposit taken before you unload | At least $40 | Refunded or topped up at the scales |
Hours, busy times and holidays
Every depot is closed on Sunday. Only Bermondsey, Ingram and Scarborough take general loads on Saturday, and they stop at 12:30 p.m. The other four take general loads Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bermondsey runs around the clock from Monday 6 a.m. until Friday 9 p.m., and Ingram from Monday 6 a.m. until Saturday 12:30 p.m., both with a pause from 11:30 p.m. to midnight.
Avoid 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. when you can, because City vehicles go first. Hazardous waste and electronics have their own hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays that a depot takes them, and 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The City's 2026 holiday schedule says all sites are closed to the public on Family Day, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Simcoe Day, Labour Day and Thanksgiving Monday. They were open on Good Friday, Canada Day and September 30. For the rest of 2026, the City lists sites as open on Wednesday, November 11, and closed on Friday, December 25 and Friday, January 1. Check the City's holiday page for dates beyond that.
What no depot takes, and where it goes
The City lists items that none of the seven depots accept. For most of them it says to contact a private company to arrange disposal. Its lists are not complete, so use the City's Waste Wizard tool or call 311 when you are unsure.
Hazardous waste has its own route. Paint, propane and other gas tanks, batteries, solvents, pool chemicals, cleaners and similar products do not go on the garbage tipping floor. They go to the separate hazardous waste area at the six depots that take it, free, up to 50 litres or 50 kilograms per drop-off, or the City picks up 10 to 50 litres or kilograms free through Toxic Taxi, booked through 311. Our household hazardous waste guide covers it in detail.
The City's bylaw wording on prohibited waste is broader than its accepted items page. It names drywall and scrap metal among construction waste, while the accepted items page allows clean drywall at three depots and metal at four. Follow the accepted items page and the depot list above, and ask 311 if your load is borderline.
| Item | Status at depots | Where it goes instead |
|---|---|---|
| Concrete, brick, cinder block, paving stones, rocks, stones, gravel, asphalt | Not accepted | A private company, per the City |
| Soil, sand, sod, grass clippings | Not accepted at any location | A private company for soil and sand |
| Asbestos | Not accepted | A private company that handles it. We do not take it either. |
| Tires | Not accepted until further notice | The City points to the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority for tire drop-off locations |
| Boats, ammunition, dead animals | Not accepted | A private company, per the City |
| Household recycling | Commercial and institutional only since January 1, 2026 | Curbside Blue Bin collection |
| Yard pieces over 7.5 cm across or 1.2 metres long, and wood over 1.2 metres | Not accepted (Christmas trees excepted) | Cut to the City's size limits first |
| Paint, propane, batteries, chemicals | Not on the tipping floor | Hazardous waste area (free) or Toxic Taxi |
Before you drive: the City's curbside pickup
If you live in a house, the City collects oversized items beside your garbage bin on your garbage day. The service is covered by an annual fee charged to every house and multi-residential unit whether or not the service is used.
The City lists box springs, furniture, lamps, luggage, mattresses, patio furniture, skis, toilets, appliances, barbecues without propane tanks, bed frames, bicycles, furnaces, hot water heaters, storage sheds, and carpet in bundles no longer than 4 feet and 20 kilograms. Leave 0.5 metres between items and take the doors off fridges and ovens.
Curbside does not take hazardous waste, tires, or construction and renovation waste such as bathtubs, cabinets, drywall, tiles and lumber. The City says to take those to a drop-off depot or find a private company.
Where Toronto's garbage ends up
The City says developing a new landfill within Toronto's boundaries is not feasible. Garbage collected at the curb and dropped at depots goes to a transfer station, is loaded onto larger tractor-trailers and is hauled to the City-owned landfill in Southwold Township, just outside London, Ontario.
That site takes most of the City's garbage. The City says that, at current tonnage, it could reach full capacity in 2035, and that landfill space across Ontario is limited and expected to fill within ten years. The City says it manages approximately 450,000 tonnes of garbage every year, and in 2025 it managed close to 850,000 tonnes of waste in total.
The City is studying what comes next: private landfills, public landfills, an energy-from-waste facility and expanding the current site. No decision has been made. For a resident with a load, the depot is where it enters the system.
Having it hauled instead
We do the loading, the carrying and the driving. You do not need a vehicle, a tarp or a spot in the line at the scales. We try to recycle what we can. Our loads run from the minimum pickup (up to 1 cu yd, $119) to a full load of about 16 cubic yards at $599, each with a weight allowance, before 13% HST.
Be clear on the numbers. On fees alone the depot is cheaper: $189.86 per tonne of garbage against $599 for a full load with 1,000 kg included. You pay us for the work, the vehicle and the time. For a few items, the minimum pickup is $119. For heavier jobs, weight over the allowance is $200 per tonne, billed from the scale ticket. See the junk removal cost guide for how loads are sized.
We price from photos and confirm the volume on site. We are insured. Same-day service is plus $50 when the schedule allows. If everything is already outside at ground level and ready to load, you get 10% off the load price.
Some loads suit us better than a depot. A single mattress is $99, and one fridge or freezer is $169 with refrigerant removal included. Concrete, brick, soil and asphalt, which no depot takes, are from $350 per cu yd. In the City of Toronto we also do demolition and tear-out. See garbage removal in Toronto for how a pickup runs.
We do not take hazardous waste: paint, propane, chemicals or asbestos. Take those to a depot's hazardous waste area or book Toxic Taxi.
| Load | Volume | Price | Weight included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum pickup | up to 1 cu yd | $119 | 100 kg |
| 1/8 load | about 2 cu yd | $169 | 150 kg |
| 1/4 load | about 4 cu yd | $259 | 250 kg |
| 1/2 load | about 8 cu yd | $389 | 500 kg |
| 3/4 load | about 12 cu yd | $499 | 750 kg |
| Full load | about 16 cu yd | $599 | 1,000 kg |
Questions about toronto transfer stations
Seven: Bermondsey (188 Bermondsey Road), Commissioners (400 Commissioners Street), Disco (120 Disco Road), Dufferin (35 Vanley Crescent), Ingram (50 Ingram Drive), Scarborough (1 Transfer Place) and Victoria Park (3350 Victoria Park Avenue). Each doubles as a City drop-off depot for residents.
No. All seven City drop-off depots are closed on Sundays. On Saturday, Bermondsey, Ingram and Scarborough take general loads until 12:30 p.m. Hazardous and electronic waste is also taken on Saturday morning at six depots, but not at Dufferin.
You pay a deposit of at least $40 first. The fee for garbage is $19 for the first 100 kg, then $189.86 per tonne. The City's example is 205 kg for $38.92. The scales settle the difference after you unload.
No. The City requires a safe motor vehicle with a secured, covered load. Walk-ins, bicycles and manual transportation devices are not permitted. If you have no vehicle, the City's curbside oversized pickup or a hauler are the options.
Commissioners and Dufferin, from residents only, at $142.40 per tonne since July 1, 2026. Residents in houses can also set mattresses out at the curb on garbage day. We pick up a single mattress or box spring for $99.
Clean drywall, up to 1 tonne, is accepted at Bermondsey, Ingram and Commissioners only. Remove nails, screws, metal corner beads, ceramics and wood first. Disco, Dufferin, Scarborough and Victoria Park do not take drywall.
To the hazardous waste area at Bermondsey, Commissioners, Disco, Ingram, Scarborough or Victoria Park. It is free, up to 50 litres or 50 kilograms per drop-off, with no weighing. Dufferin does not take it. Disco does not take it from October 13 to 26, 2026. The City's Toxic Taxi picks up 10 to 50 litres or kilograms free.
The City's pages describe the depots as a service for Toronto residents and, through its commercial disposal service, for businesses. They do not say how visitors from other municipalities are treated, so ask 311 before you drive in.
The City says a new landfill within its boundaries is not feasible. It sends most of its garbage by tractor-trailer from its transfer stations to a City-owned landfill in Southwold Township near London, Ontario, which it says could reach full capacity in 2035.
Not at the moment. The City says tires are not accepted at drop-off depots until further notice and points residents to the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority for alternative drop-off locations.
